Cool Beans This book was fabulous First off it was the most readable cookbook ever By that I mean I could have skipped reading every recipe and only read the precursors and the book would still have garnered a 5 bean rating It was partially a biography Crescent Dragonwagon has some cool friends is it her name part history lesson but so not boring it is most interesting there is a gaggle of uotes from books and part travelog What a fabulous writer she isAnd get this guys and dolls Crescent is a vegetarian however most of her recipes offer meat centric vegetarian and vegan versions This is a cookbook for the masses Bonus most ingredients you will have in your home already or at least you will know of them There were only a few WTFIT ingredients WTFIT what the frack is that however Crescent explains what they are and where to get them and sometimes what to use instead So I made a recipe before finishing the book I had all the ingredients that I eat anyway I skip

I am a Southern gal that grew up on beans Pinto beans and cornbread were absolute staples in our house We grew and ate all kinds of beans Some I loved and some I would be happy to never see again Beans are so healthy and such a great source of protein that I am incorporating of them into my family s diet after several years of not cooking them very often so I was so excited to dive into this book I must say the cover is very deceiving It portrays all kinds of dried beans but the bean that seems to get the most attention from the author is actually green beans with nearly 30 recipes that use them You only get 6 recipes each for Great Northern or Pinto beans which was a disappointment as I love cooking with both of those and was hoping for recipes for new dishes I cannot wait to make several of the recipes including All Day Baked Beans and Red Bean Stew but there really isn t a huge amount of recipes I will use Some of the recipes have a crazy amount of ingredi
